 Our MISSION:

Helping Homeless Veterans and Families by providing temporary, safe, and dignified homes and sustainable skills training to ensure transition to permanent housing and long-term growth.


How We Work (The Rise Together Initiative)


We build and manage a community that is safe and provides transitional dignified housing for individuals facing homelessness.  We prepare our residence to learn vocational and professional skills that prepare them for stable gainful and meaningful employment as they move toward self-sufficiency.


Dedicated volunteers provide individualized support, helping trainers to remove barriers to employment including transportation, behavioral skills, core life skills and more.

 The Advisory Council is a body that advises the management of the Rise Together Initiative. Unlike a Board of Directors, Advisory Council has no authority to vote on matters, nor does it have any legal or fiduciary responsibility.


 Responsibilities

1.    Attend biannual board meetings and other events/functions as requested.  Review agenda and supporting materials prior to board meetings.

2.   Be informed about initiative; its volunteers, construction projects, services/support activities, and inform others.

3.   Assist with placement of initiative graduates.

4.   Provide support and advice to projects, assist in the development of new projects, and identify best-practice standards.

5.   Serve as an ambassador and advocate to the Rise Together Initiative, providing a connection to and ongoing exchange of information and ideas with practitioners in the community and other external contacts.

6.   Assist in identification and acquisition (when appropriate) of external funding and resources to support veterans and training programs.

7.  Assist in the identification and recruitment of new council members.

 Personal Characteristics

•   Ability to listen, analyze, think clearly and creatively, work well with people individually and in a group, provide constructive feedback.

•   Willing to: prepare for and attend bi-annual board meetings; ask questions; share ideas, opinions, and experiences; open doors for veterans and the homeless.

•   Possess: honesty; openness to differing views; a friendly, responsive, and patient approach; engagement skills; personal integrity; a developed sense of values; concern for and interest in the vision and mission.


 Advisory council members represent a cross section of business, industry, labor, and/or profession relevant to helping homeless veterans and families.  A diversity of perspectives is an important aspect of the council.  Diverse perspectives and experiences based on veteran status, gender, race, ethnicity, geographic location, age, and other related qualities are all important aspects in council member selection.


The advisory council consists of 5 to 10 members.  Advisory council members will serve two-year terms with the possibility for renewal for additional terms based on their interest and involvement, at the discretion of the board.


The advisory council is non-voting and does not engage in decision making related to initiative personnel, budget, or internal policy-development.


There is no formal compensation for advisory council members.  Costs related to travel (mileage, accommodations, and other expenses) are the responsibility of each council member.
